At PLESD, protecting your privacy is our priority. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you opt into our SMS text messaging programs through ParentSquare and the PLESD phone service provider.
 
Information We Collect
  • Phone Number: The mobile number you provide to receive SMS messages.
  • Message Information: Messages exchanged with PLESD, delivery status, and responses such as opt-out requests.
  • Consent Records: Your opt-in or opt-out choice, including the date and method used to submit or update your preferences.
 
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
  • Send school and district notifications, updates, and reminders through ParentSquare.
  • Communicate individually with families through the PLESD phone service provider.
  • Maintain records of your consent and messaging preferences.
  • Support message delivery and improve communication.
 
Your Consent and Messaging Preferences
 
  • One-to-One Consent Requirement
    Under the January 2024 FCC ruling, opt-in consent applies solely to Plumas Lake Elementary School District. We do not share your consent with third parties or affiliates unless you expressly agree.
At the beginning of each school year, parents and guardians will be asked to opt in to or out of SMS messaging during annual data confirmation.
 
If you are new to the school district or have not consented, you may consent to receive SMS messages by completing the form below.
 
 
Your consent applies to PLESD communications. Your mobile information and SMS consent will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
 
You may change your messaging preferences during the school year by contacting your child’s school office.
 
Message Frequency and Data Rates
Message frequency varies based on school activities, district updates, and individual communication needs. Additional messages may be sent during urgent events. SMS frequency will not be more than 3-5 messages per day unless there is a notification event.

Opt-Out and Help Instructions
  • For general ParentSquare text messages, reply STOP to unsubscribe. For help, text HELP to 66458.
  • For messages through the PLESD phone service provider, tell the staff member that you no longer wish to receive text messages or contact your child’s school office.
  • ParentSquare urgent alerts may be handled differently from general notifications. Contact your school office for assistance with these preferences.
  • You may also contact the District Office at (530) 743-4428 for help with SMS messaging.

Data Sharing and Disclosure
We will never sell your SMS program data. Your mobile information and SMS consent will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
 
We may share information with service providers, including ParentSquare, the PLESD phone service provider, and carriers, as needed to support and deliver text messages.
 
Information may also be disclosed when required by law.
 
Security of Your Information
We use reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no system can guarantee complete security.
 
Recordkeeping and Proof of Consent
PLESD maintains records of SMS consent and opt-out requests, including choices submitted during annual data confirmation. These records document your messaging preferences and support applicable recordkeeping requirements.
 
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our practices or applicable requirements change. Material changes will be communicated by SMS or posted on our website. The effective date above will reflect the latest update.
