Plumas Lake Elementary School District strives to implement the best instructional practices for students learning English. Goals for our learners of English are to:
- ensure that they acquire English-language proficiency
- recoup any academic deficits that may have been incurred while learning English
- promote cross-cultural understanding, and
- provide equal access to the core curriculum provided for all students
Within the classroom all teachers utilize evidence based instructional strategies to develop the English language while addressing the content standards. This includes a high level of focus on grammar, syntax, and error correction. Teachers use multi-modalities of instruction in order to support vocabulary.
The schools develop intervention groups for students who require additional support as they acquire English proficiency. Intervention groups focus on grammar, academic vocabulary, and comprehension within a small group setting.
