How to become a Certified Substitute
- Meet the eligibility requirements established by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and the Yuba County Office of Education;
- Complete the substitute teacher application process through YCOE;
- Obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ), if applicable;
- Provide proof of a negative TB test completed within the past four years or a completed TB Risk Assessment clearance;
- Present original identification documents for employment verification, such as a Social Security card and driver's license, or a valid passport; and
- Complete any additional onboarding requirements as directed by YCOE and PLESD.

How to Become a Classified Substitute
PLESD welcomes classified substitutes who are interested in supporting students and schools in a variety of roles, including paraprofessional, clerical, nutrition services, custodial, and yard duty positions.
Interested applicants may apply through EdJoin or Contact Heather Fowels in the HR department to obtain a Substitute Employee Packet and Live Scan forms to begin the process.
Prior to employment, applicants must:

Complete the Substitute Employee Packet;

Obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). Applicants who have previously been fingerprinted as a volunteer with PLESD do not need to be fingerprinted again;

Provide proof of a negative TB test completed within the past four years or a completed TB Risk Assessment clearance;

Present original identification documents for employment verification, such as a Social Security card and driver's license, or a valid passport; and

Submit all completed forms to the PLESD District Office located at 2743 Plumas School Road, Plumas Lake, CA 95961.
