Certificated positions require a California teaching credential, certificate, or professional authorization and typically include classroom teaching, specialist, counseling, and other credentialed educational roles.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Prior to beginning employment, selected candidates must provide:
  • Fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). To comply with California Assembly Bills 1610 and 1612, all classified and certificated substitutes, as well as probationary and temporary employees offered employment, are required to complete fingerprinting. Employment is contingent upon receiving fingerprint clearance and successful completion of the background investigation.
  • Proof of a negative TB test completed within the past four years or a completed TB Risk Assessment clearance.
  • Original identification documents for employment verification, such as a Social Security card and a valid driver's license, or a valid passport.
 

Credential Requirements

PLESD seeks highly qualified educators who possess the appropriate California credentials and authorizations required for certificated positions.

 

Teaching Credential

Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid California teaching credential appropriate for the position being sought. Credential types may include Multiple Subject, Single Subject, Education Specialist, Pupil Personnel Services (PPS), or Administrative Services credentials.

 

English Learner (EL) Authorization

California law requires teachers providing instruction to English Learners to possess an English Learner Authorization. This authorization may be embedded within a California teaching credential or obtained through approved coursework or examinations.

 

Intern Eligibility

PLESD welcomes qualified intern candidates who are enrolled in a Commission-approved teacher preparation program and meet all applicable requirements for an Intern Credential. Candidates interested in internship opportunities are encouraged to contact Human Resources for additional information.

 

Official Transcripts

Applicants may submit unofficial transcripts during the application process; however, official transcripts from an accredited college or university will be required upon employment. Transcripts are used to verify degree completion, units earned, and salary placement eligibility.
