Ways to Practice High Frequency Words

Ways to Practice High Frequency Words

1.    Line up several word cards on a table say one of the words and have the student point to the word that was said and remove it from the table.

2.    Laying the words on a table, provide some clues about the word and have the student guess the word. Ex: This word starts with /l/ and rhyming with mike.

3.    Use a flashlight to highlight one of the words on the table. Have the student read the word. Then have the student highlight the word for you to read.

4.    Place cards face down in a stack. Have the student draw the cards and read the words as fast as they can. You can even time them to see improvement.

5.    Make two sets of flashcards and place all cards face down on a table and play match. In order for the student to get the pair, they have to be able to read the word.
