| | Welcome to the Plumas Lake Elementary School District web site. We greatly appreciate your interest in the district as a possible place for your children or for seeking information about district programs.
The Plumas Lake Elementary School District is a special place for students that provides a safe school environment on well-maintained school sites. The schools in our district provide comprehensive educational programs that are based upon a high standard of performance.
Growth in the district has averaged over 500 percent over the last three years, but this year we have experienced a 17% decline in enrollment due to the overwhelming number of foreclosures we are experiencing in our district. This year has been difficult, but we continue to meet the challenges with our excellent staff and the support of our families and students.
The District Office is located at 2743 Plumas School Road in Plumas Lake across the street from the Sleep Train Amphathetre, 530-743-4428.

| | Announcement The Board of Trustees of the Plumas Lake Elementary School District announced today they have hired Mr. Paul Carras to fill the position of Interim Superintendent. Mr. Carras comes to PlumasLake after retiring as Deputy Superintendent for the RocklinUnifiedSchool District. During the selection process, Mr. Carras met with members of the community at a workshop the Board of Directors held at Rio Del Oro School. During the workshop Paul answered questions presented by a panel of 12 people, representing a cross section of the PlumasLake community. After the workshop, the board and Mr. Carras chatted with members of the audience, where he was greeted with smiles and handshakes. The Board spent over a month in the selection process including advertising the position online; reading and reviewing the numerous documents presented by 16 applicants; spent over 6 hours interviewing the final 4 candidates; verified background information of the final candidate. The Board members spent over 120 person-hours planning and instituting the selection process. Numerous times the booard gathered together for board meetings at the District Office, starting at or before 6pm and working until well past 11:00pm. At the end of the selection process, all four members of the board felt they had not just selected the best applicant, but had selected a person who will drive the district forward, empower employees to take on their duties and provide the necessary communications between the district and public to keep the community aware of positive changes taking place. The Board feels that when Mr. Carras has completed his term as Interim Superintendent, he will turn over to the permanent Superintendent a district that has changed from being a group of individuals, to a working team made up of Administrators, Teachers, Staff, Parents and Public, ready to face the future and some day become one of the healthiest Districts in the State. The eyes of the State are on Plumas Lake, waiting to see how we recover from being the fastest growing district in the State, to being one of the hardest hit districts during these trying times. We will triumph. The Board of Trustees would like to thank Mr. Ric Teagarden, Superintendent for the Yuba County Office of Education, for his outstanding assistance with the selection process. Mr. Teagarden, and his team, was an invaluable asset and saved PLESD thousands of dollars in legal fees and other relevant costs. We look forward to building an even stronger relationship with Mr. Teagarden and his office. | |

| | Letter sent home............................................
March 17, 2008 Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Community Members, I am writing this letter to address concerns regarding the recent reductions to teaching staff throughout the district. This district, along with the other 1000 plus school districts in our state are facing funding cuts. In January, we learned that California schools will be facing an expected 10% funding deficit for the 2008-09 school year. We were cautioned to begin planning for this deficit. For some districts like ours, we discovered we would be facing an additional problem: declining enrollment. These two factors are hitting our district like a painful one-two punch (...........to read the rest of the letter click here) | |
