I am distributing the budget cut recommendations that I will be making to the School Board on March 2^nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Cobblestone Multipurpose room. You will see that these recommendations closely align with the budget committee recommendations. Several changes have been made since the public comments and Board discussion at last week's meeting and after thorough analysis of the input data that we have collected throughout the process. Some of you may ask questions about why some items are on my recommendation list when the board said they were not interested in making those cuts last Thursday when they were giving me direction on the development of a recommendation. The list of items that the board discussed did not reach the $497,000 mark that is our projected deficit for next year. I believe these recommendations best serves our students in light of having to cut another $497,000 after cutting almost $1,000,000 last year. I am fearful that we will again be having some of these discussions next year due to the deteriorating State budget situation.

These are difficult times in education and I am sad to have to recommend any cuts to our employees. I know that we are talking about people's livelihoods and I am sorry that we have been placed in this horrible situation. I strongly recommend that people contact their legislators and tell them to make education funding a high priority.

Superintendent's Recommendation

Board Input from Feb. 18 Meeting

PLESD put together a 12-member committee that includes six parents and six staff members. This committee has been asked to:

1) Become experts on the PLESD Budget

2) Communicate important information and gather input with all stakeholders
3) Develop a recommendation for the Superintendent and Board for the 2010-2011 budget.
4) Provide oversight throughout the budget cycle.

The committee is scheduled to meet five times. They meet at 4:00 p.m. on each of the dates below at one of the school sites. These meetings are open to anyone wishing to participate, however in the end it is the job of the committee to develop a recommendation.
